ICJW and LJW
One very special feature of joining LJW is that it brings with it the opportunity to participate in a worldwide Jewish women’s organisation. As we are the UK affiliate of the International Council of Jewish Women (ICJW), each LJW member is a member of ICJW.
ICJW involves 52 organisations in 47 countries across the globe and it enjoys consultative status as a non-governmental organisation at the United Nations, as well as representation at the Council of Europe and the European Women’s Lobby.
All the member bodies of ICJW share a common interest in social justice and social welfare. There are annual opportunities to travel to conferences in Europe, Israel or beyond, where we can meet like-minded women from other affiliates, discuss topics of mutual interest, take the opportunity to broaden our minds and extend our experience.
The UK ICJW committee also arranges an annual seminar to mark Human Rights Day. In the past these have included Faith Schools, Whose Human Rights? and a tea at the House of Lords addressed by the Minister with responsibility for civil liberties.
