The League is a voluntary service organisation, which is unique in that it provides help wherever it is needed, within both the Jewish and the wider community. It was formed in 1943 and has about 3,000 members around the UK.
League members are organised in local groups who meet regularly for social events and to arrange their voluntary service. Most are around London, but we also have several groups in the Manchester area and other large towns. Some groups meet during the day and others in the evening. We have groups for younger women and one specifically for younger women on their own.
Our voluntary work ranges from hospital and home visiting to working in prisons or running day centres for older people. Many members also work in schools and baby clinics and contact centres. The type of work members do is as varied as the members themselves and much of it is organised locally.
Our Head Office committees provide opportunities for training and education, and our LeagueArtz committee allows members to visit the theatre and art exhibitions with like-minded people.
Through its affiliation to national organisations such as the Women's National Commission the League is consulted on government legislation and contributes to forming policy.
The League is the UK affiliate of the International Council of Jewish Women, which gives members the opportunity to take part in worldwide conferences and join their voices with those of two million Jewish women across the globe.
If you are already a member of the League, thank you for your input and time. If you are not yet a member please think about joining and identifying with Jewish women across the UK.
